Lulu Hypermarket Gets Into The Malaysia Book of Records

Hello beautiful people. How are you doing today? Hope everything is going great for you too.
So how was your Hari Malaysia weekend? Mine was full with attending history-making events in Klang Valley.

One of it was attending a record-attempt of 'The Longest Fresh Fruit Cake in Malaysia' by Lulu Hypermarket & Department Store.
But first, let us have a simple trivia about Lulu Hypermarket. Lulu Hypermarket & Department Store is a chain hypermarket, started in Dubai since 2000. Mr. MA Yousuf Ali is the founder and Managing Director of Lulu Group Retail International. Whereas, Lulu Hypermarket in Caps Square (beside Jakel Mall @ Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Kuala Lumpur) is the first chain in Malaysia and started operation a year ago. According to Deloitte, Lulu Hypermarket is among the Top 10 Fastest Growing Retailer in the World. Take that people! 

The making of a history

In conjunction with the 2017's Hari Malaysia, Lulu Hypermarket attempted to create history by breaking the record of the 'The Longest Fresh Fruit Cake in Malaysia' which was set by Colmar Tropicale, Berjaya Hill of 90 m. So, in order to set up a new record, Lulu Hypermarket was set to create a 120 m fresh fruit cake and I was there to witness the attempt.
While waiting for the staff of Lulu Hypermarket done the cake decoration, my friends and I went for a tour. The hypermarket is of 3 storey high and it has literally everything under its roof - you name it, they have it.

• Ground Floor: Hypermarket, Customer Service & Hot food 
• Level 1: Women's Clothing, Children's Clothing, Health Care & Grooming, Churidar & Saree
• Level 2: Men's Clothing, Shoes, Sports Section, D.I.Y, Car Assecories
• Level 3: Electronic & Electrical Goods, IT & Gadget

Another unique quality of Lulu Hypermarket is that it has the unique name for certain sections in the building:

• Lulu Roastery: A vast variety of roasted nuts and dried fruits from all over the world
• Lulu Celebrate: A colourful and vast display of Indian clothing - with superb discounts too!
• Lulu Connect: Gadgets, electronic and electrical goods on amazing sale!
• Lulu Bakery: It's a bakery with an amazingly low price for its items.
• Lulu Sushi: You'll be spoilt for choices here too!
• Lulu Delicatessen: Cheese, sambal and pickle lovers will love it here. A lot of choices and the olive oil sold here is cheap too!

And you know what happens when you are in a shopping mall that offers great discounts?

You shop!
So here's the aftermath hahaha.

Let's get back to the record-breaking attempt.
It was quite intense, witnessing the representatives from The Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) measured the cake. They put up signs for every 10 m. When it reached 100 m, the measuring tape entangled and it took them quite a while to untangle it. 

It was like watching the last 2017 SEA Games - the football match between Malaysia and Indonesia - the feeling of intense and suspense was skyrocketing. And when the MBR representative put up the 120 m sign, the audience broke into applause, whistles, screams, and claps. Everybody was so happy that Lulu Hypermarket managed to break the old record of 90 m.

After the announcement, Lulu Hypermarket sold the cake slices (a huge and generous one too) to its customers for RM1/ slice. The proceeds of the cake sales goes to Cheshire Home Selangor.
Once again, congratulations to Lulu Hypermarket on your 1st Year Anniversary and what a bonus to have been recognized and recorded in Malaysia Book of Record for having 'The Longest Fresh Fruit Cake in Malaysia' with a record of 123.3 m. And I was a part of that history too!
