I wrote about My Fun Cooking Kick-Off several weeks ago and last weekend, I attended the finale where the past winners face off each other in a cook-off, together with Peter Davis, a local celebrity and Malaysia's greatest Mixed Martial Art star (I bet everybody was having butterflies the size of T-rex in their stomach - and to be competing again a star - that multiplies the size of the butterfly).
The cook-off was carried out in the same procedure as before - the contestants will be given a certain amount of cash to buy the ingredients, there will be a mystery ingredient that must be largely displayed in their final dish and it has to be done in a specified time limit to prepare a delicious dish with Lee Kum Kee's sauces.
For the final round, the contestants were given RM100 to buy their ingredients, the mystery ingredient was prawn and they have to prepare two dishes - an appetizer and a main dish - all within 1 hour and 30 minutes time. Of course, every dish has to incorporate the sauces of Lee Kum Kee.

Mdm Kat and Ms Chloe (Round 1 Winner) |
|
Mdm Choy Yin & Ms Shi Wei (Round 2 Winner) |
|
Mdm Chin Yew and Mr Zhi Yean (Round 3 Winner) |
|
Mdm Ayu and Mr Anaqi (Round 3 Second Place) |
|
Mr Peter Davis and Ms Alex Chong (Celebrity Team) |
When the time started, it was fun to see the contestants running around in SK Market to buy their ingredients. One will see the group starting to decide on what to buy, what to cook and who to do what job during the cook-off. Communication and creativity are crucial, ladies and gentlemen. If it was me, I would be dumb-founded and clueless as what to prepare deliciously and safe for consumption within the time limit. That is why I resort to just eating instead of cooking the meal. Haha.
Throughout the period, one will see parents/ guardians instructing their young ones on what to do. Peel this off, please mind the stove, cut this veg and clean the prawns etc. And in one particular group, it was the other around - it was the child that instructed the mother on what to do. Wow! A future chef in the making!
Seeing all the electrical appliances used during the competition made me wanna get some for myself - albeit my seldom cooking. All electrical appliances used during the event were sponsored by Electrolux and Desa Home.

The judging time! |
When the time was done and all the group has presented their dishes to the judges, Chef Chan Ki Hong was invited to showcase the diverse applications of Lee Kum Kee’s sauces and condiments in a cooking demonstration. Three dishes, named “Flavoured Chicken Popcorn”, “Vegetarian Spring roll” and “Three Treasures Rice”, were prepared featuring both signature sauces of Lee Kum Kee like Premium Oyster Sauce and XO Sauce, as well as brand-new innovative sauces like the Asian Twist Salad Dressing range.
“I am so glad to see all little chefs working hand in hand with their parents to prepare scrumptious dishes with Lee Kum Kee’s diverse range of sauces. Through this competition, we are one step closer to achieving our mission of ‘Promoting Chinese Cuisines Worldwide’, spreading the joy of cooking to the young generation here. Next year is the 130th Anniversary of Lee Kum Kee. Stay tuned for more surprises!” said Mr Dodie Hung, Executive Vice President – Corporate Affairs of Lee Kum Kee. So guys, keep your eyes peeled and on the lookout for the announcement from Lee Kum Kee.
