Originally from Sibu, Sarawak, I am always missing my mum's homecooked meals.
And always, I will have to settle for Thai or Chinese food.
That's why when I go back to my hometown, I will gain those extra kgs due to overeating hahaha.

A posh restaurant welcomes you |
That is up until recently, I discovered Bunga Lawang Cafe, in my own neighbourhood ie in Seksyen 7, Bandar Baru Bangi that cooks traditional home-cooked meals.
Location: Restoran Bunga Lawang, 50G, Jalan 7/7B, Bandar Baru Bangi, Seksyen 7
Waze: https://www.waze.com/location?h=w282guufh
Looking from outside, one might get intrigued by its beautiful and posh decoration, as do I!
Entering the cafe, I was in awed by its rich and elegant decorations. It is cosy and insta-worthy too!
Just look at all these lamps, the chairs and the paintings on the wall.
Fact: The paintings are original pieces by Abdul Ghafar (father to Gibran Agi).

Hello there |
|
A beautiful table set for four |
|
I love the symbols at the door |
|
Look at the posh chairs |
|
These amazing and beautifully lit hallway immediately attracts my attention |
|
There's a surau too |
Bunga Lawang Cafe is owned by Ruhil Syafinaz (Inaz) and her husband, Gibran Agi. The names sound familiar right? Well, Inaz is the sister to Ruhil Amani and Gibran Agi is an actor. Bunga Lawang Cafe has been around for quite some time and according to my friends, Inaz is always around, most of the times that some of my friends are now friends with Inaz.
When my friends and I arrived, Inaz and Gibran were there to meet us. And I get to ask Inaz about Bunga Lawang Cafe. She explained that the idea of establishing Bunga Lawang Cafe because her family always find it hard to get hot home-cooked meals and most of the restaurants only serve buffet food, which is not always order-to-cook.

The power duo |

Inaz's mum - the person behind the yummy food |
Remembering that her family has always cherished her mum's cooking, they came up with Bunga Lawang Cafe as they want people to have hot home-cooked meals any time of the day. All the recipe's are from Inaz's family and Inaz's mother is the person to supervise the quality of the food, every single time.
We were served with the best-sellers of such as Kari Kepala Ikan Jenahak, Tauge Goreng, Sotong Masak Hitam and such.
At times, when I feel like it, I will go for curry. And the best curry is served in Penang (to my opinion), so, it is quite disappointing to search for curry and be let down after consuming it afterwards.
Here at
Bunga Lawang Cafe, the
Kari Kepala Ikan Jenahak was delicious, and more!
At first, I thought that I will be only eating light, as I was watching my waistline (says no one ever! hahaha).
But after having
Daging Tetel Goreng Jintan, Sotong Masak Hitam and
Tauge Goreng, unknowingly, I requested for
nasi tambah! It was that delicious, people.
My verdict: 5 Stars for every dish!
Thank you
Bunga Lawang Cafe for the delicacies - now my missing for mum's cooking will be lesser as I can always go here and have that delicious home cooked food!
And then the time comes for dessert and drinks, I was astonished to learn that the giant glass drinks are HUGE and TALL!
And that ABC tho'!
As I had to leave early for a dance practice, my friends told me that I missed the best part of the meal - the desserts - Malaysian style!
They had cucur ikan bilis and lempeng pisang that they swore as the best ever they had ever tasted!
Ini tak boleh jadi!
I have to come again to try those yummy desserts!
|
The huge drinks! |
|
Cucur Ikan Bilis |
|
Lempeng Pisang |
As we all love to end our meals with hot drinks, I ordered a hot milk tea and this was how it comes out!
So elegant and posh!
I will definitely revisit Bunga Lawang Cafe as I want to try other delicacies and also the desserts!
Wanna come with?
Just holler and we'll dine together.
But not Mondays as Bunga Lawang Cafe is closed on Mondays ok.

ReplyDeleteTo me, of all the cuisines that we get to indulge in, home-cooked meals are the best, especially mom's traditional recipe. For people like you who stay outside of home, this is the next best answer to cravings for home-cooked food!
