Everyone has their favorite holiday destination which they frequent so often, it literally becomes their second home and they know the town/ area like the back of their hands.
Me included. And I love Bangkok more than any other place.
Why?
I love its easy-going pace, the smile on its people's faces, the night markets, the 'interesting' and rare local products and also its food - tom yam gong, padprik and pad thai to name a few. I am sure you guys could name more especially the exotic ones. Hehe.
But sadly, due to time and fund constraint, my longing to visit Bangkok every year has to be put on hold at times. So what do I do when I have Bangkok's food craving? I frequent all the known restaurants that sell (or claim to sell) Thai foods. So far, there have been a few hits and most are misses! Some might come as a huge miss too - Thai food with local taste! I would call that fusion and not authentic.

Mueang Kao Thai Restaurant |
After a trip with a few of my friends to Mueang Kao Thai Restaurant located in Damansara Jaya, I know where I should go for my next Thai-food-craving.
Mueang Kao Thai Restaurant
Address: No.21, Ground Floor, Jalan SS 22/11, Damansara Jaya, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Hours: Open daily (11 am - 3 pm | 5 pm - 11 pm)
As I entered the diner, the decorations on the walls kinda reminded me of my old house - there were an old sewing machine, an old TV set and an old typewriter. I guessed they were the owner's but I never had the chance to ask about the beautiful antiques there.
The sweet smell of lemongrass filled the dining area. Immediately my thought was "oh.. there is that sweet smell of steamed fish being cooked".
There are two sections of the dining area: there is the table area and another one is the floor-seat area (just like the kotatsu table in Japan). The dining area was brightly lit and it enhances the ambience for a quiet dining experience.
So what did my friends and I have?
We were served with sets of lunch meals that consisted of authentic Thai taste with some international twist here and there, but the main focus is still the distinctive Thai-taste.
Please note that all set meals come with Hot Tea or Hot Chocolate drink ok.
So from here onwards, feast your eyes on the best and authentic Thai dish in Damansara that is from Mueang Kao Thai Restaurant.
My verdict on the feast?
I might be biased because I love Thai food but you can try all of them yourself.
- I do not do spicy food (read: couldn't handle). But at Mueang Kao, I could enjoy all the dishes with very little help from the lemongrass drink that I ordered.
- The portion is for one person (it is a set meal right).
- The introduction of international flavours in some of the dishes are very minimal and did not interfere with the distinctive Thai taste.
- The beef dishes are newly introduced to the menu and they are all very delicious.
- The chef is a very young guy from Thailand - so you can bet that the taste is authentic.
- All sauces are home-made and the secret trades of Mueang Kao - so don't ever asking about the recipe. The sauces are the best!
- The staff are super -friendly too!
Was that all that we ate that day?
Of course not.
What is a Thai feast without these delicious signature desserts?
Yes, eating out at Mueang Kao Thai Restaurant does satisfy my cravings for Thai foods and at the same time makes me want to go visit Bangkok again, soon.
Gang, when are we going balik kampung to Bangkok again?
Oh. Here is the picture of a fully satisfied group of people after eating all those dishes at Mueang Kao Thai Restaurant.
