Hunter Killer [Movie Review]

My friends and I will always find an excuse to meet up and spend our time together, may it be over coffee, movie or just a plain spicy gossip.

So, last Diwali holiday, we decided that we NEED to watch a movie together and just simply decided to give Hunter Killer a go. I have read splitting reviews about the movie, so I just want to watch it for myself. SYNOPSIS A US submarime, the USS Tampa Bay, vanishes while shadowing a Russian submarine in the Arctic.  In order to find out what's going on and to avoid a possibility of igniting a third world war, Commander Joe Glass was send to investigate the incident.

And what exactly what are watching here gentlemen? I only see dots and lines

Sensing something amiss, Admiral Charles Donnegan agrees with Jayne and Rear Admiral John Fisk's idea to send a Navy Seal team, under the command of Lieutenant Beamen, to discreetly observe a Russian naval base. When they arrive at the base, they witness the Russian Defence Minister, Admiral Durov conducting a coup d'etat by taking the Russian President Zakarin prisoner.

Meanwhile, under the sea, Commander Glass, onboard of Arkansas, comes across the lost US submarine, on the sea floor, with no survivor. Then the crew hears the distress signal and searches the area for the source. Upon contact with another sunken ship, the Russian submarine, Commander Glass realises that the ship was sabotaged and the explosion comes from inside the submarine.
As they are about to rescue the survivors of the sunken Russian submarine, the crew realises that they are being targetted by another submarine that has been hiding under an iceberg. Skillfully, Glass manages to avoid the impact of the attack and instead, destroys the ambusher, apparently a Russian submarine. Putting the incidents together, Glass realises that the attack on both sunken submarines is staged to start a war.

When will this one stop talking? I need to go home and watch Ellen with my wife

Sir, can you please sit down? I wanna watch the movie too.

Despite disagreement from his crew, especially from his Executive Officer, Glass saves the survivors from the wreck, including the submarine captain, Capt. Andropov. 
Back at the base, via the surveillance feeds from Lieutenant Beaman's team, the US government learns that Admiral Durov is trying to ignite a war between the two countries. Admiral Donnegan insists on preparing for war but Rear Admiral Fisk suggests that the Arkansas assist the rescue mission of President Zakarin by the Beaman's team and avoid the war at all cost. 
Which route will the US government take, rescue the enemy to avoid a war or face the war?
MY REVIEW Plot: 4.0/ 5.0 One will know from the get-go that the US will be the hero. But I love the curves thrown unexpectedly throughout the movie, it keeps my eyes peeled on the screen. It might not be the best movie that Gerard has ever starred in but there are scenes that you feel like holding your breathe and pray for the safety of the cast.
Cast: 4.6/ 5.0 I would say that the cast is amazing - no complaint whatsoever about their performance.
Will I watch it again: I will, at home.
