The House with a Clock in Its Walls [Movie Review]

I read mixed reviews about The House with a Clock in Its Walls and some keep on comparing it to the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Now, reading all those comments made me curious. What's the best way to ascertain the result? I see the movie and here's my review.

After the death of his parents, Lewis moves to live in with his uncle Jonathan. He meets Ms Florence, Uncle Jonathan's best friend and neighbour. 

This is the latest fashion statement - a must ave accessory

During the night, Lewis is puzzled when he hears a ticking sound in the walls. And he is shocked and frightened to stumble upon Uncle Jonathan smashing a wall with an axe when he explores the house to find the source of the ticking sound. Running for his life, he stumbles upon multiple household objects that are alive - literally alive to block him from escaping the house. 
Uncle Jonathan confesses that he is a warlock and Ms Florence is a witch. And both of them have been trying to find the source of the clock that gives out the ticking sound. Apparently, the previous house owner, a sinister warlock by the name of Isaac Izard and his wife, Selena has hidden a clock in the wall before they died. Both Jonathan and Florence do not know the purpose of the hidden clock but they are sure it was for no good.
And despite Jonathan disapproval, Lewis begins to teach himself magic.

Lonely for affection, Lewis was happy to have Tarby as his friend at the new school. Little that he knows that Tarby only becomes friendly to win his vote for the class president. When Tarby abandons him, Lewis tries everything to win him back, including promises to show him a real magic. 

Lewis' mother visits him in a dream and advises Lewis to use a spell from a forbidden book to impress Tarby. 
On Halloween night, Lewis performs a black magic spell and accidentally revives Isaac from his death. When Isaac brings Mrs Hanchett, the nosy neighbour to the house, Jonathan's household learns that Mrs Hanchett is actually Selena who killed the real Mrs Hanchett and also took the form of Lewis' mother to persuade him to read from the forbidden book.

With such creepy looking toys, no wonder they stay outside the house

Why did Isaac and his wife hide a ticking clock in the walls of the house?
Will Jonathan, Florence and Lewis be able to stop the menace plan of the sinister duo?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.8/ 5.0. Where there is Jack Black, you can expect funny like nobody's business. I love the plot of the movie with twists thrown here and there. I keep on guessing the reason for the ticking sound until Isaac shares the reason with the viewers. I love the suspense and the magic in the movie so much. As compared to the other movie, I would say each has their own strengths and weaknesses. It will not be fair to compare them as one is an apple, another is an orange. As for me, I love this more for its magic scenes. 
Cast: 4.8/ 5.0. OH MY MAGIC! The cast is just brilliant. I have to applaud Owen Vaccaro as Lewis. His performance was brilliant! The other two veterans were equally good and are amazed that Cate could throw funny punches as great as Jack do.    Will I watch it again: Yes, I would!
