In the age of expensive things all around us, I love to surround myself with beautiful and GLAM things at low prices - fashion on a dime is my concept nowadays.
Who has the cash to indulge in all those expensive items that will go out of style in a blink?
In my search for fashion on a dime, I came across a unique concept store where it sells all preloved items from Japan at a very low price. Still thinking that all these might be a PR gimmick and sceptical about the quality of the items, I immediately accepted the offer to be among the first to shop at the latest branch of the shop.
Jalan-Jalan Japanis the name of the store. I bet all of you have heard about it.
So far, it has opened its branches in the following locations:
1st Superstore @ Sky Park, One City, USJ
2nd Superstore @ Shamelin Mall, Cheras, KL
3rd Superstore @ CenterPoint, Seremban
I was invited for a shopping experience at the soon-to-be-opened 4th Jalan-Jalan Japan Superstore @ M3 Mall, Taman Melati, KL. Of course, I accepted the offer as I want to inspect the quality of the preloved items myself and see how low can the price go.
The idea behind Jalan-Jalan Japan Superstore originated from Japan (of course) where fashion changes very rapidly that fashion-conscious people need to let go of their last season items soonest to make way for new fashion. Another thing is because of the tight living spaces in Japan, so letting go is the best way. And letting go is a mean of giving away the preloved items to new owners, with a small amount of cash involved.
When the store opened its door for us, we were greeted by young and energetic Sales Assistants and all seem eager to assist our shopping.
So, without wasting time, I went to scout the floor to strategize my shopping move as I intend to keep my shopping to a maximum of RM200 only. Literally running down the floor, I saw aisles of handbag section, footwear section, furniture section, clothing for men and women section, sporting goods section, childcare section and toys section.
So, I went immediately to the footwear section as I want to look for my social and formal footwear. I have difficulty finding shoes as I have small feet. After going through the racks, I found one particularly outstanding and beautiful shoes but does not fit into any of the categories that I have mentioned above.
How can I let this one go!
It is tall, in my size, very new as the heels are still intact, the inner is so clean and it cost me only RM20! I just took the boot off the rack - I might need them for my next event!
Next is for the outfit!
I have always been in love with samurai pants but always thought that I do not have the height to pull them off. I remembered walking in Tokyo in 2018 and saw guys going around in such pants and I thought to myself 'I want those pants!'.
And I was in luck! I found several of them. At first, I thought that I would fit into the S size pants, but thought better of it and get all in M size. So, here is my haul at the clothing section.
Going through the toys section, I thought that it would be better if I bring my nieces and nephews to choose their own toys here. And I will bring my mum and sisters to the handbag section so that they could have a field day of their own there.
My father? I think he will be happy at the furniture section or perhaps the bags section too - he might want to look for a waist bag to store his items.
Doing my catwalk at the bags aisle, my eyes caught sight of a beautiful small luggage bag. Of course, it is in black. After checking out the condition of the bag, I just took it and the other items to the cashier. I have enough for the day and I literally could just go a hotel and check in for a two-day vacation as I have managed to find all the necessary outfit for the stay.
Stuffing my haul into the luggage, I only paid RM115 for all the items! That was well below under my budget!
My thoughts about the shopping experience at Jalan-Jalan Japan Superstore @ M3 Mall, Taman Melati, KL
The store is huge, strategize your move
The choices are vast - take your time to get the best. You might find preloved items in very mint condition if you inspect carefully
I went through each aisle twice just to ensure I did not leave anything unchecked
There are display cabinets for branded preloved items - you may ask the SA to assist you with these items.
If I were to rate the quality of the preloved items here, I would say that 85%-95% in great condition.
Preloved = Last Seasons so do not expect to find the latest fashion items here.
Will I come again?
Of course. My cousins saw me wearing the samurai pants and when they know the price, they immediately booked my day so that we could attend the opening of the 4th Jalan-Jalan Japan Superstore @ M3 Mall, Taman Melati, KL on 18th May 2019.
