Baba Yaga: Terror of the Dark Forest [Movie Review] | Being a bookworm that I am, I read almost all of the folklore storybooks and novels that were available in the library in my hometown when I was a librarian in the school's library. I love reading folklore novels and Baba Yaga was one of the folklore stories that made me shivered a bit so it is natural that I want to watch its real-life movie.

The movie started with the narrator telling us the backstory of Baba Yaga - a witch that kidnaps small children and their families will have no recollection of memories of the children ever alive. But a pure-hearted kid that had died once managed to trap her in hell. In order for her to visit the real world again, she needs another pure-hearted kid with dark energy to free her.
The film centers on a young family that moves to a new apartment on the outskirts of the big city. The family hired a young nanny to take care of the baby and somehow, she quickly managed to gain the family's trust. Everyone, especially the father. But the elder boy, Egor did not trust the nanny and tried to tell his parents to no avail.
The father installed a nanny cam just to watch over the nanny while she was at home. One night, Egor heard his sister crying and he went to check his sister. When he looks at the nanny cam video via his phone, he sees a lady was holding his sister sitting at the chair beside the crib. But there was no one actually sitting there, in front of him!
One day, he returns home from school and finds no trace of both the nanny and his sister. His parents do not even remember that they had a little girl. Not wanting to give up on his sister, Egor with his friends tries their best to outthink the dark force.
Will Egor succeed in his battle against the witch? Will he be able to bring back the loving memory and get his sister back?
MY REVIEW
Plot: 4.0/ 5.0 It was kinda very straight-forward movie. I kinda know what's going to happen next. Good versus evil and good wins.
Cast: 4.6/ 5.0 I am amazed that the main characters in the movie are all children. And they were brilliant.
Will I watch it again: I probably wouldn't.
