Functional, Fashionable and Affordable Glasses at Eyes Vision Optical, Sungei Wang Plaza | I have been wearing my current glasses for almost three years now. And optometrists recommend that 'you should update your glasses every one to three years - no matter how much you believe that they are still functional for eyesight - which is a common misconception'.
So heeding that recommendation, I searched for a shop that sells a decent priced pair of glasses (I still want to hold on to my current glasses - also the fact that my budget won't allow me to splurge on a new glasses). And my research brought me to a few hits on a viral eyewear store in Sungei Wang, Bukit Bintang. It went viral for its decently-priced glasses and also that the new glasses will be ready in less than an hour.
I went there right after work. I arrived at Sungei Wang Plaza and immediately looked for Eyes Vision Optical located on the ground floor of the plaza. You'll never miss the store as it occupies two double lots that sit across each other - which mean it occupies 4 lots of shops which equal to a whole lot of glasses choices!
Some of the frames choices |
Wow. Some branded frames are available here too (and the price is tempting too) |
I love the options at these walls |
Trying out some frames - Can I have all? |
After checking in using the MySejahtera app and applied sanitisers to my hands, Aliya, one of the manager attended to me. She asked me my preferences were for the frame and showed me around the store. Boy, was I spoilt for choices - I felt like a little kid in a candy store. So many choices to choose from! So many designs and colours!
I chose 4 frames that tickles my fancy, with Aliya's assistance on which one that will fit my facial features and not leave marks on my nose (I bet people experiences this too). And after thorough consideration and a few (thousand) tries, my final choice was these two beauties.
Aliya has my eyes checked and later into the inspection room to try the lenses, to better figure out the right lens power for me. Aliya told me that my myopic glare is still fine, whereas probably in two years time, I might be needing to use short-sighted glasses to read. My lenses power increased just a little - probably due to too much working on computers and reading stuff on the smartphone.
Before fitting the frame that I chose with the right lenses, Aliya showed me some of the lenses available.
- Multi-Coated: This is just coated lenses - will not block any UV rays from entering the eyes
- Alpha: blocks the UV rays from entering the eyes. And it reflects lights coming from the front and prevents you from getting blinded by the oncoming light - this is super helpful when driving at night and the oncoming car has these ridiculously bright headlights
- Sun black lens: the lens immediately turns to black when it hit direct sunlight - this is especially for those who work outdoors for long hours (riders, construction workers, engineers etc) but it does not block the UV rays. It will take from 1 - 3 minutes for the lens to return to its former condition (clear lens) after the exposure
- Alpha UV + Transition: Also known as All In Lens whereas it combines the alpha + the sun black features. For me, this is the best lens to have as you don't have to switch glasses in between office and drive - just use one glasses and you are ready to go anywhere. It turns to darker shades faster than the sun black lens and easy on the eyes too while reading assignments on the desktop monitor.
The four types of lens available in Eyes Vision Optical |
So, which one did I choose?
I chose to get the last one - the All In Lens. Why? I want my glasses to be fashionable and functional at the same time. That way, I don't have to switch glasses in between events, office and drive (and having to bring multiple glasses for different occasions is just too troublesome).
Is the price still RM65?
Nope. RM65 is for the frame of your choice with multi-coated lens.
Whereas if you choose to have the Alpha lens or Sun black lens, just add in another RM60, amounting to only RM125 for a pair of glasses.
And for the All In Lens, it is just RM250 per pair! That's a deal that I cannot say no too!
And true to their promise, I received my new All In Lens glasses in just 30 minutes. That's super fast! Even a haircut takes longer than that (here is another story that I will tell in another post). Aliya told me that unless your power is high (500 onwards), you'll get the new glasses within 1 hour (depending on the crowd of the day). Even for those with a high-powered lens, it will take less than 2 days for the glasses to be ready. No longer a week-long wait for the high-power glasses like we used to.
I have been talking about Aliya a lot, didn't I? Actually, Mr Jun, the Director of Eyes Vision Optical was around throughout the process, adding in some information whenever needed and reassured me of my choices.
Mr Jun, Director of Eyes Vision Optical |
Aliya, Manager |
Yes, even the Director took his time to meet the clients and offers personal and professional opinions and advice to the customers there, whenever he is able to do so (the customers arrive non-stop at the shop and all the assistants are constantly occupied).
Thanks Mr Jun for the advises on which frame and lens that suits my feature. I will bring my friends to get their fashionable and functional glasses here too.
