Raf.PJ: Petaling Jaya's One Stop for the best street-foods | Being friends with Maha Mahu is great as I get to know the best food around in KL and Selangor area (at times we go further depending on our moods). But travelling to different places to try all the different favorite foods is quite tiring and we often wished that it would be much easier and fun if all these foods are located under a roof.
And then there is RAF.PJ. Maha Mahu brought me here to try all the best of PJ's street food under one roof, he said. Well, I read that there are several beloved street food that the PJ's residents hold dear all these while but they are located all over the map. And now RAF.PJ will save all the travelling (less toll and fuel cost for all) by having all these beloved street food under one roof.
Located on No. 23, Jalan SS5A/11, Petaling Jaya, RAF.PJ is easily seen from the roadside as it sits on the corner lot of the business building. The easiest landmark to get here is just to find another cafe that's adjacent to it, The Fennels.
Designed as an open food court, RAF.PJ houses among the best and beloved street foods that the residents of Petaling Jaya hold dear and near all these while.
'It was my late wife's wish to open RAF.PJ and she wanted to have all these soul foods under one roof.' Mr. Hafiz, the owner, explained when asked about the inspiration behind RAF.PJ.
Albeit it was just recently opened, RAF.PJ was a full house when we arrived that day. Some of the stores were closed due to the state-wide water problem that weekend but some were in business (lucky us!).
- ShoShedap On The Go: Joining the current trend of spicy chicken in Korean style, the store is owned by a famous Youtuber, Ashhryyyy. He started his cooking channel and then turned to IG where his followings increases, like a lot. So here, he introduces four variants of salted egg fried chicken - Salted Egg Spicy, Cheezy Salted Egg, Korean Yangnyeom and Korean Spicy Curry BBQ. And we tried his cooking first-hand that day! Follow the journey here ShoShedapOnTheGo and ShoShedap.
- The Gorpis: Now, who doesn't love good yummy and crunchy pisang goreng every now and then? The Gorpis takes the traditional pisang goreng to a whole new level with the shaved cheese and chocolate on top of the delicious banana fritters. One can choose Cheese, Chocolate, Oreo, Caramel and many other topping options - your pick! And I am sure, they'll come up with more topping options too - follow them here - The Gorpis.
- Sate Barokah Ibu Nur: In the mood for a great taste sate and bakso? This store certainly delivers when it comes to its variants of sate here - Sate Ayam, Sate Lembu, Sate Kambing and even Sate Bebek (Itik). Also not forgetting our neighbour, Indonesia best noodle and meatball - bakso. Check them out here [Sate Barokah Ibu Nur].
- Marvelous Ayam Goreng Kunyett: This one is my all time favorite food. Simple yet very fulfilling comfort food for me. I tried this one here and it was YUMMEH! They have the options of ayam goreng kunyit, daging goreng kunyit and sotong goreng kunyit. As I was feeling adventurous, I asked to try all three options on top of the hot rice with soy sauce and a little sambal. Now I want more Marvelous Ayam Goreng Kunyett.
- Otak-Otak Petaling Jaya: This is another one of Malaysia's favourite street foods. They serve the otak-otak and sata hot from the grill for you. And when they serve it hot, I didn't realise that I managed to gulp 3 sata! These hot from the grill goodness of Otak-Otak Petaling Jaya is certainly worth the trip.
- BAAM Nasi Dagang KJ: Nasi Dagang is another food that I love. And I love the original fish curry in my nasi dagang. Often times I get the very diluted curry and I hate that. But this one has the tastiest fish curry that I've ever tasted. When asked, I was told that the recipe is brought specifically from Terengganu - original and all! BAAM Nasi Dagang KJ also serves keropok lekor here too!
- Pak Daud Kuey Teow PJ: Being a quarter Chinese and all, I love a good char kuey teow every now and then. When the noodle arrived, I was already happy to see huge prawns in the noodle. And when I started eating it, it brought me back to my schooling years in Sibu, Sarawak. Nyaman eh that's how we in Sarawak described good food! Good job Pak Daud Kuey Teow PJ
- The Fennel: The Fennel is adjacent to RAF.PJ and offers air-conditioned eating area. Where RAF.PJ offers beloved local street foods, The Fennel offers a variety of western delicacies, pastries, desserts and drinks. And me being a dessert freak, I tried creme brulee and I loved it. The staff are very accommodating in answering our questions about their best sellers.
And I would like to visit here for breakfast soon.
Operation: Monday - Sunday | 7 am - 4 pm | 5 pm - 12 am
