The movie starts with a girl being turned away from attending her boyfriend's funeral, with the mother accuses her to be the cause of his son's death. Frustrated, the girl went back to her place where her sister asked if she did the 'pagpag', to which she replied she did not as she does not believe in such superstitions.
Pagpag in this movie refers to the Philippinos belief that one should never go home directly after attending a wake/ funeral since it risks bringing evil spirits or the deceased to one's home. Whereas in Tagalog it literally means 'to shake off the dust or dirt'.
Cedric, a rich guy with a very short-temper is being grounded by his father after being involved in a fight. Escaping from his house, he drives around mindlessly until she almost runs over Leni, a wake consultant. They fight and Leni unknowingly loses her charm bracelet in Cedric's car.
After partying with his friends, Cedric decided to head home after argued with Hannah who forced him to be in a romantic relationship with her. Again, driving recklessly, Cedric almost runs over Leni who is arranging a funeral for Lucy's husband, Roman. Unwittingly, everyone who was there violates a superstition ie Hannah whose tears dropped on the coffin, Rico wiped the coffin with a handkerchief, Cedric attended the funeral with an open wound, Dencio stole the money he found under the coffin, Marcelo swept the area where the coffin is and the worst of all, every single one of them did not do the 'pagpag' after the funeral.
At home, Leni's stepbrother, MacMac starts to see ghosts but since he can't/ won't speak, he just draws 9 figures with a number 8. Then one by one, the unwanted attendees of Roman's wake dies.
Is 'pagpag' causing all the deaths or is there a darker secret behind it?
MY REVIEW
Plot: 4.0/ 5.0 This could me being very Asian but I feel close to the movie as the practice is also a norm in my culture (Iban). I love the twists thrown into this movie that will keep you guessing until the end - what is causing all these mishaps?
Cast: 4.3/ 5.0 I love all these characters. They performed beautifully.
Will I watch it again: I don't mind watching it again soon.
