The Unholy [Movie Review] | Finally, I get to watch a movie on a cinema. Albeit I was so scared going into the cinema. I went in first and when I realised there was no one else, I sprayed some sanitisers on my seat. Hahaha!

I have been watching the trailer for the movie and I know that watching it in the cinema would be great!

The movie opens with a woman being executed for witchcraft in 1845 in Banfield. Her spirit was bound to a doll before she dies.

In present day, Gerry Fenn, a disgraced journalist is desperately looking for strange, unusual and supernatural stories to revive his career. His latest assignment takes him to Boston and when he finds that the story was just a teenage prank, he was about to return home disappointed when he discovers a buried doll, the same doll that was used to trap the soul of the witch. Desperately wanting to matter again, he crushes the doll and tries to fabricate a supernatural story about a sinister soul running amok in Boston after its doll was crushed. Little did he know that he literally did just that when he crushes the doll. 

As he drives home, he gets into an accident while trying to avoid hitting a girl standing in the middle of the road. He follows the girl to the tree where he found the doll and hears the girl speaking before she collapses. 

Later, in the hospital, he learns that the girl, Alice is deaf-mute. So, thinking that an interesting story is brewing, he stays to learn more about Alice. 

The next day, Alice shocks the whole town when she starts talking and proclaims that she was healed by the Virgin Mary. As her story becomes viral, Gerry befriends Alice and request to be the sole source for any story about Alice's miracle from the Catholic Church representatives, Monsignor Delgrade and Bishop Gyles. The church's representatives were sent to ascertain whether it is truly a miracle or a prank.

Alice, with the assistance of the Virgin Mary heals more and more people from their sickness, ones that cannot be healed before. A kid that was paralysed since birth now managed to walk again and even her uncle, return from death with Alice's miracle. 

Somehow, Father Hagan, Alice's uncle was suspicious of the nature of Mary, the being that interacts with Alice. Father Hagan believes that a dark force is never far from a holy being. And the one that speaks to Alice is not a holy being. 

Somehow, people who is discovering about 'Mary' seems to die mysteriously.

Who is Mary and why Alice?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.2 / 5.0 I was right to watch this horror movie in the cinema. I love that the actions are not too much on the jump-scare scenes, although the plot is predictable. 

And somehow the movie reminds me about Dajjal - the false Prophet who will perform miracles and lure people to follow the dark ways. So, yes, true to the tagline of the movie 'be careful who you pray to'. 

Cast: 4.6 / 5.0 Jeffrey and Cricket played their parts beautifully. 

Will I watch it again: Yes, I don't mind watching it again.
