Fear Street Part One: 1994 [Movie Review]

Fear Street Part One: 1994 [Movie Review] | This is another new movie that I accidentally came across on Netflix (well, Netflix suggested it to me since I have been watching too many thriller movies. Thanks Netflix).

Viewing the trailer, I immediately loved it and as they say, the rest is history.

The film starts with Heather being killed by her friend, Ryan, who previously was joking around with her while they were closing the bookstore. Ryan was shot in the head by the police after he killed more employees in the mall. The media report that the killing is just another killing, a norm in Shadyside, Ohio, where they dub as the murder capital of the USA. And everyone in Shadyside believes that curse placed by Sarah Fier, a witch that was executed for witchcraft in 1666 started it all.

Whereas, the neighbouring town of Sunnyvale is considered one of the richest and safest cities to live in.

Deena, an independent teenager doesn't believe in the curse, lives with his brother, Josh who spends most of his time online in Shadyside. Her friends, Simon and Kate are selling drugs, in the hope to save enough money and flee the city. She has just broken up with Sam, her closeted girlfriend and who just moved to Sunnyvale.

During a vigil for the mall killings at Sunnyvale, the teenagers from both cities manage to hold their peace for a short while before breaking into another fight.

During their drive home, the Shadyside kids decide to prank the Sunnyvale kids, causing a car that Sam rides in with her boyfriend, Peter to veer off the road and down the roadside. When the Shadyside kids try to help the accident victims, Sam sees a vision of Sarah. The victims are brought to the hospital.

The night after, Deena realises that someone is stalking her at home. And she immediately thinks that Peter is back to retaliate. She calls Kate and Simon and later all of them realises that they were all being stalked by the same guy. Determined to get to the bottom of the prank, Deena and her friends and brother give Sam a visit at the hospital. As Deena was arguing with Sam about Peter's immaturity, Sam walks in and defends that he was with Sam the whole night. Only when Peter was stabbed by the killer from behind only the duo realises that the stalker was not Peter.

Running for their lives in a stolen ambulance, the kids try to figure out who is out to kill them. Josh tells them the killing history in Shadyside and later concludes that the Fier's curse made ordinary and happy people turned murderers. And all these murderers are now back, somehow, as Sam has accidentally disturbed Sarah's burial ground during the accident. Their acts of giving a proper burial to Sarah's bones did not stop the murderers from going after them.

Then the group realise that the murderers are not after them, they are after Sam because it was Sam that disturbed the bones.

Through Josh's intel, they think that the murderers will only stop when Sam is dead.

Will killing Sam stops the killing spree? Will they be able to kill Sam, their friend?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.6/ 5.0 A witch curses the city and every killer will come back to kill another one that disturbs her bones. That's the plot for the first of the trilogy.

I guess the first one is to lay the foundation for the next two. And I am loving it and excited for the next two. I get that same feeling when I first watched Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

There are bloody and sexual scenes, so be mindful when you watch this with the little one.

Cast: 4.8/ 5.0 I don't know who these young actors are but they were beautiful in their delivery - as per the cast of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Will I watch it again: Yes! And I want to watch the trilogy with my screamer friends, please!

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.

  2. I need to watch this movie although I'm not a fan of horror movies. It's because this movie is based on R.L Stine's Fear Street. I used to be a fan of R.L Stine novels when i was a teenager. So I definitely be checking out this movie. Thank you for sharing your review.
