Hutang 2D [Movie Review] | Wow! Rawlins is watching a Malaysian movie? Why not? I've watched Telugu, Hindi and many more foreign language movies, so it is time to share a Malaysian movie.
So, what awaits with Hutang 2D?

- The film is the first film for members of Floor 88 and it features the group's popular song, Hutang.
Ayie, a webcartoonist, lives in a flat with his father, Pak Jie. Pak Jie belittles his talent as he is not earning anything with his talent and he also spends most of his time daydreaming.
Ayie dreams that he will one day win Shima's love, the daughter of Mak Ima who lives in a unit in front of his. He opens his small snacks selling counter in front of his house, just so he could see Shima selling nasi lemak every day.
Pak Jie is known for his habit of borrowing money from people and end up in piles of debts. The whole flat knows not to meddle with Pak Jie's problem whenever debt collectors enter the area and look for Pak Jie.
Han and Kit, the notorious debt collectors, come to collect money from Pak Jie and Ayie will always run and hide, instead of standing and defending his father. Pak Jie's debt with Han is amounting to hundreds of thousand ringgit and Han wants to call on the debt, in a week.
Despite his father's harsh words towards his hobby of drawing, Ayie wants to help his father with his debts. His prayer was answered when Gua Mambang (presumably a spirit) appears and gives him a magic tablet. The magic is, whatever he draws will come to life if his intention is good.
He creates characters of himself (his alter egos) with powers that he wishes to have. And these characters help him in his daily life. The alter egos also assist the people in the neighbourhood whenever they need help.
Han presents a way out for Pak Jie to settle his debt, which is by kidnapping Shima. Pak Jie, eager to get out of his debt, agrees to the suggestion and kidnaps Shima. He hands Shima to Han. Han is happy that he has Shima now. Then Han decides to kidnap Pak Jie too so that there will be no loose end.
Will Ayie and the group of his alter egos be able to save Pak Jie and Shima? Will any of Ayie's dreams come true via the magic tablet?
MY REVIEW
Plot: 4.2/ 5.0 A straight forward and pleasant to watch movie with your family members. The reason it is called Hutang 2D will be revealed towards the end of the movie.
With the right and nice placement of special effects and comic-cinematic scenes thrown throughout the movie, I was pleasantly surprised by the movie.
And no, this movie is not the typical 7 pm teledrama about rich people who talks only about million dollars projects.
Cast: 4.0/ 5.0 I was actually surprised that Ogy's part was minimal despite her status as an accomplished actor. Then I understand that portraying Ogy too much would not be highlighting the other actors.
For the first timers such as the members of Floor 88 and Baby Shima, there's a promise of good acting in them. I was kinda expecting to see 'kayu' actors but again, I was pleasantly surprised to see none. Good job to the casting team.
Will I watch it again: I don't mind watching it again with my best buds, whenever we are allow to gather again.
