Meg 2:The Trench [Movie Review] | Here's another movie that I was very eager to watch. Even though I am diver, I have a mild Thalassophobia and I know watching movies with monsters and unknown creatures lurking underneath won't help with the phobia.

But I have to see what's in store after the first nerve-wrecking Meg.

• Jason did all his stunts on his own, including the jet-ski scenes. And he is disappointed by the lighter tone and lack of bloodshed in this film.
• This one however have a higher kill count than the first one.
• There's an interest to have a sequel that will take almost completely underwater. That's gonna be great!
• The jet-ski scenes were filmed in Phuket. 

Five years after the first meg attack, Jonas is now involved in fighting environmental crimes on the side. His main focus is still with Mana One, exploring the deep part of the Mariana Trench, in hopes to discover more new species there. 

Meiying, the daughter of Suyin is now raised by him, alongside with her uncle, Jiuming who has acquired the company. 

Jiuming has also raised and trained Haiqi, a female megalodon that was discovered as a pup. Jiuming thinks that he has Haiqi under his belt - assuming that the meg understands and will obey all his instructions. But lately, Haiqi has been acting weird and Jonas is fear for Jiuming's safety while diving with Haiqi. 

On a routine exploration to the trench, Meiying who has always fascinated with the area has managed to hitch a ride with Jonas. As they descend to the thermocline, they realised that Haiqi, who has escaped from her captivity, is pursuing them. Both subs dive into the thermocline, in hopes that Haiqi will stop pursuing them, but Haiqi forces her way through it anyway. Underneath the thermocline, the team encounter two male megs who takes interest in Haiqi and mate with her.

The team discovers an illegal mining operation in the trench, complete with a mining station. Apparently, the illegal mining is led by Montes, one of the sea criminals that Jonas has put behind bars. And Montes is hired by Hillary, the wealthy financier who backed Juiming's exploration and research. She wants the team to mine rare earth minerals for her. 

Upon her instruction, Montes blow up his crew, which was setting up explosives to mine the minerals. The explosion causes underground earthquake and some debris fall on the subs. Now the group has to walk on trench towards the station for safety, with megs swimming above them.

Will the group survive the trench, the megs and the traitors?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 3.0/ 5.0 Yes, they discovered more megs. And still they go down. And the megs escaped. Along with a huge kraken. 

I was expecting fight scenes between the kraken and the megs but it was kept to a minimal. And it seems that the megs are a bit smaller than the last one. 

Cast: 4.0/ 5.0 OK lah. Just that there are more funny scenes in this one. Was it intentional, I don't know. 

And I think Meiying is cursed with bad luck cause the whole thing started with her, one entitled spoilt brat!

Will I Watch It Again: No, thanks.
