Fanna [Movie Review]

Fanna [Movie Review] | I was invited for the movie premiere of Fanna last week. I went in with little knowledge about the movie, other than Syafie Naswip is among the stars.

I have always love his acting, so I immediately accepted the invitation to watch Fanna.

Fanna is a young woman who is headstrong, independent and could be very sweet, depending on her company. She loves photography, bike riding and occasional cardio and kick boxing at the gym.

Meanwhile, Shafik is of another breed and a total opposite of Fanna. He is the son of Azizi, a mafia and he follows in his father's footsteps very closely, along with Sabrina, his sister. He runs a very tight ship and he suspects that there is a conspiracy going on to take over his father's illegal business - ultimately gets rid of him and his family too.

In a whole other world, the two would have never meet each other.

As fate has it, Shafik walks by one night when a group young men harasses Fanna. Shafik comes to her aid and claims that Fanna is his 'cili padi' - I assume he refers to Fanna as his lady. And the men backs off. Fanna grunts as she obviously do not need his assistant - she thinks she could fends for herself. 

Meanwhile, there is actually a conspiracy to overthrow Shafik's father from his throne by pitting another mafia group against the other. And it seems that whenever there is trouble, there is a mysterious man in mask around. This figure is later known as the Mask Man and Shafik believes that he has something to do with his conspiracy theory.

On one fateful night, Fanna comes across Shafik while he was running from Black, another mafia member that was shooting at him. Fanna runs out of the shop via the back door and Shafik follows her, forcing her to give him a ride to safety. 

During one of her bike rides with her friends, Shafik and Sabrina joins the ride via their mutual friends. 

From then on, the two gets closer.

Just as their hearts grow fonder, a dark cloud moves above their heads when Black learns about their relationship and uses Fanna to capture Shafik. Shafik manages to release Fanna and both runs off.

The next moment, they are wanted for the killing of Black and his men by Sunny, Black's brother. 

That wouldn't have matter, except that Black and his men were still alive when they fled. 

Later, Fanna learns that her parents have also become collateral damage between the two mafia groups - Azizi and Sunny's.

She starts hating Shafik for causing her parents' death.

Can Fanna calms her heart and allows herself to love Shafik? Can they come out victorious from all these disaster?

MY REVIEW

Plot: 4.2/ 5.0 The plot is there - needs tighter arrangement. As mentioned, I had no expectation going into the premiere but I ended up liking Fanna.

The cinematography is beautiful and it manages to narrates the emotions of the actors. 

In the beginning, I thought that the scenes change too quickly and no smooth correlation. 30 minutes in and the pace slows down and gets more interesting as the movie starts to tell the stories of the hearts and the real person behind the facades that both Fanna and Shafik has. 

Cast: 4.5/ 5.0 Fify, Syafie and Kenji delivers beautifully. I am impressed. And I love Colleen's action too. She is one kick-a*s lady that you don't want to cross. 

Will I Watch It Again: You know what - I don't mind watching it again.
