- A block of Churchill St in Canary Wharf, London stood in for NYC in one scene. Heavily damaged cars with New York, Connecticut, and Florida plates, along with concrete and metal debris, were scattered along the block.
Sam is a terminally ill cancer patient, living her last days in a hospice accompanied by Frodo, her service cat.
One fine day, Reuben, the hospice nurse, brings the group to New York to a theater and promises to buy pizza if Sam joins the group.
When the marionette show was not as exciting, Sam exits the theater. Reuben receives a call, urging him to bring the group back to the hospice soonest as something is happening in the city. As the bus leaves the theater, meteor-like objects start crashing into the city and causes havoc. In the midst of the dust-covered atmosphere, Sam tries to find her way to safety, witnessing people around her being taken into the mist of dust, screaming for the lives.
One more meteor hits and sends Sam hurling into the theater, where she is saved by the fellow survivors there. She is advised not to make any sound, as are the other survivors. Overhead announcements from helicopters advise survivors to stay hidden and quiet until rescue can be arranged. When the military bombs the bridges leaving the survivors stranded and contained in the island, along with the aliens, the survivors start to panic.
Determined to fulfil her pizza craving, Sam heads to the pizza place. The military announces an evacuation will take place on the south side of the city, causing the survivors to rush to safety. Their movement attracts the aliens, leading to a deadly stampede.
Eric, an English law student, emerges from a flooded subway and finds Frodo who was separated from Sam. Sam reunites with Frodo and Eric starts following Sam around, and later to her home.
The duo share their background stories and Eric strives to join Sam to her pizza place. Later, as they try to find their way to the evacuation point, they realised that the aliens are waiting there.
Will the three of them make it out alive?
MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- Not a continuation from the first two. A totally stand-alone movie and a great prequel to the first two.
- The cast were great in delivering their roles, even without much lines. Their facial and body languages and reaction are great. Even I found myself holding my breath at certain scenes, anticipating their next moves in their survival.
What I Don't Like:
- None, I think.
Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I probably will.
Overall: 4.8/ 5.0
