Pemandi Jenazah [Movie Review] | When the movie dropped on Netflix, I immediately watched it as the same writer who wrote Danur and KKN Desa Penari wrote Pemandi Jenazah.

- The screenplay for the film was written by Lele Laila, who also wrote the scripts for Danur: I Can See Ghosts (2017) and KKN di Desa Penari (2022).
Lela worked alongside her mother as a corpse washer, a role she had been familiar with since childhood. Her mother always emphasized that this was a noble profession and these teachings were a key reason Lela chose to continue this work into adulthood.
Lela and her mother shared a unique ability - they will have premonitions prior to death of people around them. Her mother receives a premonition about her friend's death during a celebration, but she keeps to herself. And true enough, that lady dies tragically later that night, blood everywhere. As it was her friend, her mother decides to wash the deceased all by herself as Lela refuses to join.
Prior to her mother attending to the matter, Lela and her mother had a huge fight. Despite her dedication, Lela once contemplated leaving her role to explore new opportunities. This led to a heated discussion with her mother. Tragically, that very night, her mother passed away suddenly under mysterious circumstances, experiencing convulsions and vomiting blood.
Her mother's death sparked rumors among the villagers, with some suggesting she had been a victim of witchcraft. These unsettling whispers drove Lela to seek the truth behind her mother's death, uncovering suspicious clues along the way.
While preparing bodies for burial, Lela discovered strange wires embedded in the corpses. This discovery hinted at secrets from her mother's past, drawing Lela deeper into a web of mystery. However, as she searched for answers, she found herself haunted by malevolent spirits.
Why are the spirits haunting her?
MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- Character development helps understanding the movie.
- I love learning new cultures - as in the movie that the ritual of corpse washing is done at the home of the deceased and outside, not like in Malaysia where it is being done at the mosque.
- Wait for the credits to end as there is a post-credit scene too.
What I Don't Like:
- The end is hanging I assume. I want to know what happened next to the brother.
- Not as intense and scary as KKN.
Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I probably will.
Overall: 4.3/ 5.0
