In 1969, Tae-In was in the middle of jet fighter training with his buddy when he received orders to shoot down a hijacked commercial plane entering North Korean airspace. He knew the pilot and sensed something was amiss. Furthermore, he didn't want to risk the passengers' lives by shooting down one of the engines. The plane went into North Korea, the passengers were detained there, and Tae-In was suspended. A year later, North Korea released the passengers, but not his friend, the pilot.

In 1971, Tae-In is now the first officer for Korean Airlines, with Captain Gyu-Sik on board. The captain wants him to land the plane once they reach Seoul from Sokcho Airport.

Back then, no security checks were done on the cargo or the passengers. One of the passengers is Yong-Dae, one of the hostages from the 1969 hijacking. Mid-air, he sets off a homemade grenade and hijacks the plane, demanding Tae-In steer the plane to North Korea. Yong-Dae wants to live better there, motivated by the large monetary reward the government offers to anyone who brings a South Korean plane to them.

Tae-In understands why Yong-Dae wants to live in North Korea but is determined not to take him there.

With the air marshal strapped to a chair, the captain's eyesight worsening due to head injuries inflicted by Yong-Dae, and Yong-Dae's constant threats to blow up the plane with his grenades, what will Tae-In do?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:

  • It is based on a real event.
  • There were some funny elements in there too.
  • The cast were great.

What I Don't Like:

    • Some bad CGIs that made the plane look like a paper plane.
    • I want Yong-Dae to be more menacing - he was not evil enough I think

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I would.

    Overall: 4.7/ 5.0

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.
