Sengkolo: Malam Satu Suro [Movie Review] | While waiting for an appointment, I decided to watch the movie. The trailer caught my interest, so here we go.

It seems that we can expect more horror films from Indonesia soon, too.

Ibrahim is the corpse washer of the village and the go-to person whenever weird and creepy deaths are involved.

One day, after completing his duty for the day, as per his usual routine, he picks up his wife and daughter from a house. I assume the wife works there as the helper of the family. Before leaving, the host gives food to Ibrahim's family. While saying goodbye to Ibrahim and his family, the hosts share a suspicious smile between them.

That night, Ibrahim's pregnant wife feels a bit tired so the family went straight to sleep after dinner. In the middle of the night, which happens to be Malam Satu Suro, his wife and daughter suddenly wake up and walk out of the house, seemingly  entranced. In another house, a couple is reciting some spells.

Ibrahim wakes up and runs after his family, only to find them kill themselves in front of him. The event leaves him deeply traumatized, leading him to quit his job as a corpse washer.

A year after the event, the same family that Ibrahim's wife worked for before and the ones that recited the spell, is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Their deaths spark various speculations among the villagers, who believe the family fell victim to black magic. Due to the black magic rumors, all the corpse washers refuse to handle the bodies. In desperation, the village head turns to Ibrahim for help.

Initially reluctant, Ibrahim finally agrees after feeling the weight of moral and social responsibility. With a heavy heart, he is forced to return to the world he had left behind. While performing his duties, Ibrahim begins to sense an unseen evil presence, dragging him back to his dark past.

Will he finds out the real cause of his family's deaths?
