Rebel Ridge [Movie Review]

Rebel Ridge [Movie Review] | Watching movies is my way of self-healing. I watched this one last weekend as I need to cleanse myself from all the toxicity I have been experiencing in the office.

Hurm, I don't think I've watched or heard of this one anywhere before. So, let's dive in.

Terry, a former Marine, rides on his bicycle into Shelby Springs to bail out his cousin, Mike. He is stopped and detained by police officers Evan and Steve, who seize his $36,000 through civil forfeiture, even though the money is legitimate. Stopped is a kind word to say, as his bike was knocked down by the police cruiser and I was angry watching the scene.

At the courthouse, clerk Elliot refuses to help Terry, but another employee, Summer McBride, agrees to prepare bail forms if Terry can get the $10,000 before Mike’s Thursday transfer to state prison. Terry tries to report the seized cash to Officer Jessica Sims, but police chief Sandy and Steve brush him off. Burnne tells Terry to return on Monday.

On Monday, Terry finds out Mike’s bus to prison has already left. After catching up to the bus, he tells Mike to stay strong while he figures out bail. Terry asks an old business partner for help, but the partner can't send money due to a police raid. Frustrated, Terry returns to the station and subdues Steve and Sandy, forcing Jessica to give him the bail money. With Summer’s help, he posts Mike’s bail but is immediately detained.

Sandy and Evan take Terry to a hospital, revealing that Mike was stabbed after processing. Sandy offers Terry $26,000, a truck, and no charges if he leaves town. Terry agrees but later learns that Mike has died. As he leaves town with Summer, she asks for his help in investigating wrongful jailings, but he refuses. Later, Summer calls him, having been drugged by police, and Terry returns to help her.

The next morning, after Summer's custody is jeopardized, Terry and Summer uncover a town cover-up involving holding people without legal representation. They steal evidence, but Summer is captured.

Will justice be served in a town where the police force is behind every wrongdoing?
