Will I be pleasantly surprised with this new Marvel character?

- The very first Marvel movie from Sony to be released into theaters with an "R" rating, with lots of bloody violence being promised.
- The sixth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Won't be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Before Aaron Taylor-Johnson was cast as Kraven the Hunter, Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, John David Washington and Adam Driver were all in the running for the role.
- Kraven the Hunter had multiple failed attempts at making it to the big screen. Sam Raimi planned to include him in Spider-Man 4, which was canceled. His spear showed up in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) as a teaser for a scrapped Sinister Six film. Ryan Coogler wanted him in Black Panther (2018) but couldn’t get the rights, and Jon Watts considered him as a backup villain for Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) if the multiverse plot fell through.
Sergei is en route to a prison. Inside the prison, he tells his cellmate that he will not stay more than 3 days. As he promised, he managed to escape prison after he killed Seymon Chorney, a Russian crime lord who ran his crime from the prison. His animalistic capability allows him to escape the prison, run across the snowy field and dispatch the wolves before boarding his helicopter and returning to his home, far inside a jungle.
Years before, Sergei and his brother, Dmitri, were called home to join his father on a safari hunt during the day their mother died. Their father, Nikolai, runs a very tight ship and believes that strength is the only way to move forward. During this hunt, a lion mauls Sergei. Calypso, who is also on a safari tour with her parents, somehow senses that Sergei needs help and lets him drink a magic potion that her grandmother gave her. The potion revives Sergei with renewed strength and capabilities. He runs from home right after he is well, leaving Dmitri with his father.
Years later, Sergei is now known as Kraven the hunter - the greatest and most feared hunter in the world.
Now that Seymon is dead, every mafia group in the world wants a piece of the throne. Aleksei “the Rhino” Sytsevich knows that Sergei is the Kraven and he kidnaps Dmitri and demands ransom from Nikolai.
With assistance from Calypso, Sergei tracks down Aleksei, only to meet the Foreigner who is able to subdue Sergei. As the Foreigner about to kill Sergei, Calypso shoots him right in the eye and kills him instantly. One more time, Calypso lets Sergei drink the magic potion, to bring him back from the brink of death.
Now, the only one that stops him from rescuing Dmitri is Sytsevich.
Can he save Dmitri from the evil of the world, their father included?
MY REVIEW
What I Like:
- I love an origin movie. And this one allows me to know the origin of Kraven.
- Now I am intrigued to watch the sequel if there's any.
- Sadly, there is no post-credit scene, thus signalling there will be no sequel.
What I Don't Like:
- Some CGIs look cheap?.
Will I Watch It Again: I don't mind watching it again.
Overall: 4.1/ 5.0
