Three years after her journey with Maui and Te Fiti, Moana continues exploring the ocean, seeking to reconnect islands and their people. Despite her efforts, the deep bond between the islanders and the sea seems broken. One fateful night, Moana dreams of her ancestor, Tautai Vasa, who reveals the cause: the storm god Nalo, consumed by power, sank the legendary island Motufetu, which once united the seas. Tautai warns that without restoring Motufetu, Moana’s people face extinction.

Determined, Moana gathers a crew: Loto, a clever craftswoman; Moni, a history enthusiast and Maui fan; and Keke, a grumpy yet skilled farmer. With her faithful animal companions, Pua and Heihei, they follow the path of a falling meteor to the depths of the unknown. Moana believes that the meteor is the sign send by her ancestors, for her to follow and find Motufetu.

Meanwhile, Maui, grappling with past guilt over a quarrel with Nalo, searches for Motufetu but falls captive to Matangi, Nalo’s fierce enforcer. Reluctant to involve Moana, Maui fears she won’t survive the dangers ahead.

Moana’s crew is ambushed by the Kakamora, the mischievous coconut pirates she once outsmarted. Among them, Kotu, a renegade, reveals how Nalo’s wrath left them disconnected from their homeland. Teaming up, they infiltrate Matangi’s lair and discover a reluctant ally in her. Matangi helps them escape and directs them to Nalo’s stormy domain, fearing for her own demise should Nalo finds out her betrayal.

Despite the growing dangers, Moana’s resolve only deepens. With Maui’s warning that Nalo’s realm could mean certain death, the group faces ambushes, damaged rafts, and isolation. When all seems lost, Maui’s encouragement rekindles Moana’s determination to raise Motufetu and break Nalo’s curse.

Can a demigod and a human breaks the curse?
