Will I love it?

• The film is based on a true event and a viral thread by Gusti Gina, who also took on the role of screenwriter. 
• The thread she wrote garnered over 11 million views and was later developed into a book before being adapted into a feature film. 
• Racun Sangga is a type of dark magic from Kalimantan, notorious for its purpose of breaking up married couples. If it fails to achieve its goal, the consequences can be deadly.

Maya and Duma just graduated. Maya wants to get married right after graduation but Duma wants to build his career first. He asks for a period of 3 years before committing to marriage. Maya informs Duma that she'll marry whoever that comes to meet her parents and asks for their blessings. 

A year went by. Both are busy with their career. Duma never brings up the subject of marriage and Maya kinda loses hope. 

During a religious class, Maya meets Andi. After a month of taaruf (getting to know each other), both decides to get married.  

After the wedding, Maya and Andi move into their new home, ready to build their life as husband and wife. At first, everything seems normal, but strange occurrences soon begin to disrupt their lives. Dead animals inexplicably appear around the house, eerie sounds of objects falling echo from the roof and the once cozy home grows stiflingly hot, especially for Andi.  

What starts as unsettling incidents quickly escalates into something far more sinister. Andi’s health begins to deteriorate. He suffers from vivid nightmares, hallucinations and disturbing auditory visions. His body weakens, leaving him coughing up blood and eventually unable to stand or walk. For Maya, who is also pregnant, the situation is overwhelming. Juggling her own condition and her husband’s inexplicable illness, she searches desperately for answers.  

The couple turns to every possible solution—medical treatments and alternative healing methods—but nothing seems to work. Instead, Andi’s condition worsens and the strange events around their home grow increasingly terrifying. It becomes clear that their lives are in grave danger.  

Determined to save her family, Maya refuses to give up. With unwavering courage, she explores every avenue, searching for a way to free Andi from the clutches of whatever sinister force has taken hold of him.  

She even went and see Nini Bulan, an ethnic healer as her last resort. 

Will their marriage survives the unholy ordeals?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• The film has it all - love, sad and horror elements that blend beautifully in the movie.
• I get to see the healing ritual - a new experience!

What I Don't Like:

• Frederika seems a bit 'new' - not able to deliver her emotions well in the movie. Shall I say - just enough?

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I don't mind.
