the Curve: Redefining Family-Friendly Excellence | On any given weekend, the Curve buzzes with life. Families stroll along the pedestrian-friendly walkways, children laugh as they explore vibrant play areas, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee fills the air. This is more than a shopping mall; it’s a place where memories are made and bonds are strengthened.
Recognised as Malaysia’s first pedestrianised mall, the Curve has long been a pioneer of innovation, blending modern sophistication with a warm, community-centric atmosphere.
Recently, the Curve added a significant milestone to its story by winning the Petaling Jaya Child Friendly City Excellence Award 2024 - Commercial Category. Presented by the Mayor of Petaling Jaya, Haji Mohamad Zahri bin Haji Samingon, this award celebrates organisations that prioritise inclusivity, safety, and engagement for children and families. It also aligns with Petaling Jaya’s recognition as Malaysia’s first UNICEF-designated Child-Friendly City—a title that underscores its commitment to creating spaces where children’s well-being takes centre stage.
“For us, family is at the heart of everything we do,” said En. Jazmi Kamarudin, Chief Operations Officer of Boustead Properties Berhad. “We’ve worked hard to create an environment that fosters connection, joy, and belonging for families in Petaling Jaya.”
This dedication is evident throughout the Curve. Approximately 11% of its Net Lettable Area (NLA) is reserved for child-focused tenants, including beloved brands like Mothercare, Babyshop, and Cotton On Kids. Entertainment hubs such as Moonbug Cocomelon Playground and The Little Gym ensure that children of all ages have spaces to play and explore.
The design of the Curve itself reflects its family-first ethos. Wide canopied walkways invite families to explore, while spacious courtyards encourage moments of rest and connection. Safety is a priority, with features like anti-slip flooring, clear signage, and stroller-friendly pathways. Parking spaces for families, women, and persons with disabilities are conveniently located near elevators and patrolled by security personnel. Inside, baby care rooms equipped with private nursing areas and feeding facilities provide parents with peace of mind.
Beyond its physical offerings, the Curve is a hub for shared experiences. From pizza-making workshops with Italiannies to arts and crafts sessions and even special activities for children with autism, the Curve brings families together in meaningful ways. Seasonal events, such as the Merdeka Food Run and Slide the Curve, add to its vibrant personality. This year, the Curve will end 2024 with two major celebrations: the Gift of Joy Christmas campaign and its 20th Anniversary New Year’s Eve Countdown Party, promising unforgettable moments for the community.
Seamless connectivity further enhances the Curve’s appeal. Covered walkways to the MRT, a buggy service, and user-friendly digital directories make every visit stress-free.
As the Curve celebrates this prestigious award, it reaffirms its commitment to being more than just a mall. It’s a place where children’s laughter echoes through the halls, families bond over shared activities, and the community comes together. With its innovative approach and unwavering focus on inclusivity, the Curve continues to set the standard for what a family-friendly destination can be—one story, one moment, one family at a time.
