Grafted [Movie Review] | I didn't know about this movie at all. It's poster intrigued me, so I googled it and the reviews made me want to watch it for myself.

A body-horror movie. So, here we go!

Wei had always admired her father. A brilliant scientist, he dedicated his life to perfecting skin grafting, determined to transform the lives of those with physical deformities. When he passed away suddenly due to his experiments, his dream became hers. Driven by ambition and grief, Wei left China to start over in New Zealand, moving in with her Aunt and cousin while enrolling in a prestigious medical school.  

She kept her head down, working tirelessly to honor her father’s legacy. But while she was determined to succeed, she also longed for something more—acceptance.  

Wei had a birthmark on her neck, something she had always been self-conscious about. No matter how hard she tried to ignore it, she couldn’t shake the feeling that it made her ugly. It didn’t help that her cousin, Angela, was everything Wei was not. Angela was beautiful, confident, effortlessly charming. From the moment Wei arrived, Angela made it clear she wanted nothing to do with her. Along with her best friend, Eve, she didn’t just ignore Wei, she tormented her.  

Still, Wei endured. She had bigger things to focus on. Her professor, Paul, had taken a special interest in her research, offering mentorship and guidance. It seemed like an incredible opportunity, until it wasn’t. 

Paul wasn’t a mentor. He was a thief. The moment he realized the potential of Wei’s work, he manipulated her, extracting every detail of her research so he could claim it as his own.  

Betrayed and humiliated, something inside Wei shifted. She had spent her entire life trying to prove her worth, to earn the approval of others. But she was done being the outcast, the overlooked, the victim.  

One by one, those who had wronged her learned a brutal lesson. Deep inside, Wei had wanted to change lives. And this time, she did. Just not in the way anyone expected.

Now that she is someone else, is she contented with her life?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:  

• Another excellent horror movie, just like Substance. 
• Kinda refreshing - a new take of body-horror I would say.

What I Don't Like:

• I just couldn't keep up with the pace. At times, it was too fast and then it slows wayyyyyy to slow. 
• A fresh cast - experiences cast would have been able to take the movie to higher heights.

Will I Watch It Again: I guess I would, but not in my go-to list.
