  • Orlok's castle exteriors were filmed at Hunedoara (Corvin) Castle, a large medieval fortress in Transylvania, Romania.
  • Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd worked with an opera coach to deepen Count Orlok’s voice by an octave.
  • The origin of "Nosferatu" is uncertain. Bram Stoker likely found it in an 1885 article by Emily Gerard, while an earlier mention appears in an 1865 German text by Wilhelm Schmidt. Though both sources call it Romanian, the term has no meaning in the language. It may stem from a misinterpretation of "Nesuferitul," meaning "the insufferable one," which aligns with the title's subject.

In the early 1800s, Ellen calls out for a supernatural companion as she was lonely. Her plea awakens a dark entity that binds her to him for eternity. She was happy but she soon forgets what entails the companionship promised.

Years later, in 1838, Ellen is married to Thomas and is living in Wisburg, Germany. Thomas, eager for fortune, takes a commission from his employer, Herr Knock, to sell the eerie Grünewald Manor to Count Orlok. Ellen, haunted by a dream of marrying Death, begs him to stay as she fears that she will never see Thomas again. He refuses, leaving her in the care of friends.

Thomas travels to Transylvania, where the locals fear Orlok’s name. Ignoring warnings, he journeys to the Count’s castle. Orlok, an unsettling presence, forces him to complete the sale. Thomas soon grows weak and sick, plagued by strange bite marks. When he attempts to flee, he discovers Orlok’s decayed body sleeping in a coffin. In horror, he attacks Orlok, only to awaken the creature. Barely escaping, Thomas is rescued by nuns who reveal Orlok’s dark past—he is a vampire, a disciple of the Scholomance, spreading death wherever he goes.

Meanwhile, Orlok sails for Wisburg in a coffin, bringing a swarm of plague-ridden rats. As the town falls to disease, Dr. Sievers seeks help from von Franz, a scientist shunned for his occult studies. Together, they uncover Orlok’s true nature.

Thomas returns just as the vampire’s plague consumes Wisburg. Orlok appears to Ellen, confessing that though he cannot love, their fates are bound. The document Thomas unknowingly signed has dissolved their marriage. Ellen must willingly submit to Orlok within three nights, or he will kill Thomas and let the plague run rampant. Desperate, Ellen surrenders to her past and rekindles intimacy with Thomas. Orlok retaliates viciously, murdering their friends and their children.

Von Franz uncovers a way to destroy Nosferatu—a maiden must offer herself willingly. And the only one that he wants now is Ellen.

Which will Ellen choose - an everlasting companionship or a love till death?
