The movie starts in 1983. A mother in her avocado-green kitchen, lace bib and poofy shoulders in place, hums along to the final episode of MASH. Her teenage son, who is quite rude, hesitantly assists her in the kicthen. Her daughter locks herself up in her room, seemingly angry at her mum. Soon, something appears from the basement and whisk the mother, the son and the daughter - in that order. Then they are gone.

Flash forward to today. Dua Lipa blasts through the speakers as young couple Rohan and Josh plan the perfect weekend getaway to introduce their parents. Rohan, a control freak, wants everything to be flawless. That means not telling his parents that Josh just lost his job and is now chasing his musician dreams. It also means sneaking in the perfect proposal moment. Their best friend, Sarah, is the only one in on the secret.

Bringing a partner home to meet the family is stressful enough. The first problem? Their parents couldn’t be more different. Rohan’s folks, Frank and Sharon, are all about rules and structure. Meanwhile, Josh’s parents, Cliff and Liddy, embrace a much looser, go-with-the-flow lifestyle.

The second problem? The stunning, too-good-to-be-true country house they’ve rented, managed by eccentric local Brenda, is home to a 400-year-old poltergeist looking for a new host. And when Frank unwittingly reads the WiFi password out loud, he gives the entity exactly what it needs—him as the new vessel.

What starts as an awkward family gathering quickly spirals into supernatural mayhem. Shadows move on their own, whispers slither through the walls, and Frank—now possessed—goes from emotionally distant to spewing projectile vomit with firehose force. And it seems both families are at each other's throat, at every single opportunity.

Could this be a glimpse to their future or can they win over the obstacles, especially the supernatural one?

MY REVIEW

What I Like:

  • The plot is hilarious without trying too much to do so.
  • I would say just enough elements of horror and comedy in the movie.

What I Don't Like:

  • I guessed the movie is about the young couple, that's why the parents does not have as much screentime as I wanted.

Will I Watch It Again: Yes, I will.

Overall: 4.0/ 5.0

The pictures are taken from multiple sources on the Internet. Thank you.
